Best Place to Host Your Blog

March 30th, 2011

My friend Jean the other day was asking my I Host my blog on blogetery.com.  It is a reasonable question to ask since I have never given it much thought.  One day, I wanted to create a blog and went searching for free places to host my blog.

I have only one complaint so far.  There was a brief period of a week where they went out of service because their web provider thought that there was sketchy content there.  However, they restored everything and have been back ever since.

I have been investigating creating my own blog, or moving this one, so I am in control of my own fate and will not be vulnerable to other’s content.  As such, I have been searching for the Best Web Site Hosting company where I can host my blog.

One of the reasons that I am considering this is cost.  A web site host, especially HostGator, only runs about $5 a month which I could easily earn back in AdSense dollars or something.

And, lately, I have been in a changing mindset, as I recently read that firefox is the best browser and so made the change from IE.

Maybe I’ll stick with the two blog concept.  One here and then my own.  Then, I’ll have the best of both worlds.

Teenage Anxiety Attacks

March 24th, 2011

Children and teens are now apparently having anxiety attacks which means that we are putting much to much pressure on our kids these days.  After reading an article called panic attacks teenager, about a father coping with a panic attack in his teenager and having to rush her to the hospital, I realized that this existed but had not idea that it was pervasive…until it happened to my niece.

This past weekend I heard from my sister, her mother, that Victoria my niece also had to be taken to the hospital for shortness of breath and my sister said that she “thought she was going to die.”

Though I have never personally seen anyone have a panic attack, I am very close to Victoria and she never struck me as some who would fall victim to panic attacks but apparently I just missed the signals.

You need to learn the signs of anxiety in teenagers and it can be hard to spot sometimes.  In looking back, I realize that Victoria, though always upbeat and fun, felt an intense pressure to do well both academically and socially and was putting an intense pressure on herself.

Victoria is now being treated for her anxiety but a more important component remains for all of the children out there in this world.

Why is society putting so much pressure on our kids?

Doing Taxes on My iPad

January 24th, 2011

If you have ever visited my blog before, you may have noticed that I am pretty lame and procrastinating when it comes to the idea of doing my taxes.

Nearly every year, I wait until the very end and then do an extensions.  I even feel like a bit of a schlub when it comes to calculating sales tax so the idea of doing my taxes gives me the heebie-jeebies.

However, this year I have just read that I can do my taxes on my iPad.  How sweet is this?

So, this year maybe I’ll go ahead and them ontime and even get a tax refund advance and get my money early.

I dig this idea of tax on the iPad.  Now, I am going to investigate deposting checks though my iPhone.

I’m so 2011!

Taxes Suck

April 18th, 2010

Well, it’s the first week after taxes for most people.

Most people, but not me. Why? Well, for some reason every year I choose to do a tax extension.

Are there any other lazy people like me who like to do this to.  I simply login into turbotax and then file an extension in a matter of seconds.  And…it’s absolutely free if you buy TurboTax which I do every year.

TurboTax has got to be the easiest thing going.  If you have you’re w2 and your stock stuff in order, it literally takes less than 30 minutes.  This is about the same time that it takes me to do my extension.

But, for some reason, I am always doing an extension.  Why?  I don’t know…are we just a nation of procrastinators?  Because I know that I sure am.

I also have looked into these things called tax refund anticipation loans which I have also read are kind of stupid.  You pay people to give you your money instead of waiting for it.  However, it only takes about 4 weeks to get money back.

The real reason that I defer I guess is that, in the end, like most people I hate taxes!

I Found My Sister

December 4th, 2009

Ok, you guys know that I was visiting my sister in Milwaukee this weekend.

So, my plan was to call her when I arrived in the city after I had lunch with my friend.  She would pick me up and we would spend the day with her kids.

But, I forgot one thing…I forgot to charge my cell phone.

I am such an idiot.  I have the iPhone which I love, but I forgot to charge it before I left AND I actually forgot the charger as well.  Thus, nothing.  A quick light and then the thing just turns off.

So, you may think I am screwed right.  Or maybe not?

Can’t I just look up my sister in the phonebook or call 411?  Apparently, not.  She has an UNLISTED phone number.  WTF?

However, it turns out that Finding Unlisted Phone Numbers Is Easy, very easy.  You see, my sister is a magazine ho.  For those not down with my language, that means she has subscribed to lots of magazines.

I think this exposes her to all sorts of databases because when I used Zabasearch, the best free people finder, I found her in a manner of seconds.

So much or an unlisted phone #, huh?

Insane Christmas Ideas

Well, I entitled this “Insane Christmas Ideas” because Christmas is such an insane time of the year.

It’s great, but yes, Christmas is insane.  All the preparations require a lot of work.  This year my Christmas quest is going to be to get everything done early.  I will do my cards and my shopping before December 1st so that I can rest with the family and friends come the end of December.

Seriously, you see people acting insane during the holidays.  The mall is a mess and everyone is running around like chickens with their head cut off.  Not me!  I did that last year.

My insane Christmas idea will be to maintain my sanity and get everything done early.  You should too!  Check out this list of the Best Christmas Gifts for 2009 which has everything that you will want to buy for everyone in your family and then be done with it.

Be sane this Christmas and be happy!

Is that an insane idea?

New Car Insurance Thoughts

July 19th, 2009

I find myself this morning researching car insuranceI am doing this because mine is about to expire and I’ll need to renew soon.

I see ads on TV all the time for Geico and AllState.  I wonder if these are good.  There is also this list of Top 10 Auto Insurance Companies to consider.

All of them claim that they can beat the others in pricing.

This may be silly but I love the guy who does the ads for AllState.  He was on 24  :) .  I trust him and they say that they can beat Geico prices by like $400 per year.

So, I’m going with AllState car insurance.

Cooking with Sarah

There’s a concept!!!

Cooking with Sarah.  Don’t hold your breath.  This will not happen often.  But tonight, I intend to learn how to grill a new york strip steak and make it a tasty dinnertime.

I have reviewed cooking.com and learned new techniques.
My friends love to do barbeques with me. Proteins are good for you. There is always something for everybody. I am never so relaxed as when I am cooking. It’s important to cook like. I know when steaks are done by feel.

This is a method to give others some worthless delivering how to broil a new york strip steak. The kitchen is my favorite room in the house. How do you establish this aura of expertise? and I had to do this under adverse conditions. It is phenomenal how anyone doesn’t dodge a complex happening like this. I’ve found out that how to cook a new york strip steak is not really worth it. You don’t press you luck. I’m not. It is clear to me that I could simply try to deal with it now. The Food Network is always a good resource. I always make fruits a part of my breakfast. I prefer the fresh cooking approach. Knowing how to cook a new york strip steak is a life thing you want to know. There are too many great foods to choose from.

My concept is based around my assumption that some people have a disposition about how to cook a new york strip steak. I have always wanted to know how to cook new york steak really well. How do i prepare a new york strip steak is something you want to know. It’s very clear that sooner or later how to broil a new york strip steak will become more popular and you should get a formal education in how do i prepare a new york strip steak.

This is a poor way to formalizing how to cook a new york strip steak. It’s takes patience to learn to cook. I’m astonished that I confirm my support for this great conclusion. Yep, when it comes to how to cook a new york strip steak in the oven, this is the most important element. Are we not startled into astonishment by how to cook a new york strip steak? but my time could be better spent by letting how to cook a new york strip steak in the oven go. The point is that I’m not passionate about how to cook a new york strip steak. The microwave works to heat things up not cook them. I simply love steak. Food sustains us and allows us to live actively. It’s hard not to nibble when I am in the kitchen.

So, I nibble, but I will have sufficient room for the big steak tonight!

The Insane Game of Golf

June 29th, 2009

Most chicks watch Oprah.  I use to.  Now, I’m a golf channel freak.  I am still trying to learn how to grip a golf club so I can swing this damn thing correctly.  Tonight, I hit the driving range to learn to drive a golf ball.  Now, I’m reading about.  How lame am I?  But there is just so much to know.

The reason for this is because it is longer and even the slightest swing flaw can put the wrong kind of spin on the ball resulting in either a slice or a hook. Address the bass and take a backswing. Once you stop seeing golf as a game where you hit a ball and instead see it as a way to swing towards a target, your golf game will improve and you’ll drive the golf ball farther and straighter.

This helps them to control the club and generate great club head speed. Dropping twenty foot putts make you feel good.

Pick a spot in front of the ball about a foot or so then when you stand over the ball aim at your target in front of the ball which will be much easier. So you’re not alone. If the stance is not proper and consistent they will never learn how to drive a golf ball straight down the fairway. You need to know your limits and then swing with control. However, having worked at a driving range for a few seasons I have witnessed more veteran golfers learn how to drive a golf ball straight down the fairway just by correcting their stance and nothing else. Many people have used these tips and found them to be extremely helpful in improving their golf swing. Now, just a caution. Straighter drives plus over spin equals more distance. It’s been the lifelong quest of many a golfer to drive the golf ball farther. In our case, it’s the driver meeting the ball. See, your shaft shouldn’t point at the ball.

If you can get control of this then you are also in a good position to start developing a well executed and controlled draw. It is important to relax the body when you are playing golf.

If you are playing in windy conditions there is no sense in aiming done the middle, because no matter no well you play you will probably finish up in the rough. Distance comes from making good contact and also from launching the ball at the correct launch angle and putting the right kind of spin on the ball.
